I spent Friday morning entertaining (being entertained, more like) by Les Petersen, fantasy/sci-fi cover artist for writers such as Trudi Canavan and Fiona McIntosh. Born in NZ, Les now lives in Sydney but has relatives over here, and he stopped by Hamilton to visit his sister, a make-up artist. Talented lot.

Though don't tell him he's talented. He'd much prefer you to call him a hack. Wonderfully modest and sublimely gifted, Les is great company and three hours with him was not long enough. I can say these things because he doesn't know I have a blog.

Comments

It would be very easy to tell him you have a blog, given he belongs to CSFG. I can just drop a line to the whole mail list saying "Interesting CSFG-related post on Russell's blog today." Except I won't because you have super-powers of revenge.

And I am about to reveal to the world my updated and improved super-powers of revenge. You wouldn't want to be the revengee.

I feel it's very important that Mr. Petersen does NOT hear that I have complimented him in any way.

Granny'd tell him, but she's lazy.

You're not scared of Les, are you, Russ?

Not scared, no. Me, scared? of Les? Les?

Yes.

He didn't arrive with a gift of a large stuffed toy, did he? I mean a LARGE stuffed toy, too.

I thought Les lived in Canberra. Has he moved without saying anything or is Russell's geography a bit off..what?

It's entirely possible my geography is a bit off. He kept talking about Sydney ... but perhaps he was not willing to admit to living in Canberra. Understandable.

You need to learn about maps. Maps are good things. They solve all geographic issues, including the location of Sydney (which I admit is a vexing problem). I have some friends who know maps and I am willing to write you an introduction to one of them.

If you would only accept maps into your life you would understand that Canberra is the centre of the known universe and not to be dismissed lightly.

How on earth did my comment appear twice? Russell, if you have a magic wand you can wave I would be grateful. So grateful in fact that you would revel in a full half hour without me stiring you.

Gillian, I do have a magic wand to wave, so please start your thirty minute timer now. But I'm not going to use the magic wand. Your comments can stand there as a monument to irony.

You have friends who know maps? I've always wanted to know about maps. Please introduce me to them!

Hi there :)
I was given a copy of Across The Face Of The Earth for my nineteenth birthday and I gotta say, its a great book. I went out and got the other two as soon as I could. Great books, my friend :)

Thats all I have to say :P

Rob/Ectes.

It would appear that Gillian must have found something else to do than stir you... Or did she continue it in private..
