Now reading: 1001 Natural Wonders You Must See Before You Die
Got an email earlier this week from a fellow asking if I could sign some books for his wife as a Christmas present. We met for lunch today at a local mall where I signed their books and chatted with them both. Great fun.
They drove down from Auckland for the meeting. How flattering! Charlotte and Neil are both keen fantasy readers, and meeting me was part of Charlotte's Christmas present. An off-the-wall idea, I thought, and more a punishment than a gift. Still, there's no accounting for taste. I tossed in a copy of Path of Revenge since they were so keen.
Charlotte was the only reader so far who has correctly identified Hal's real father, among other insights. It's great to meet someone who 'gets' what I was trying to do. I left feeling very encouraged (and much fuller).
Thanks, Neil and Charlotte. I feel like I got the Christmas present.
Sounds like a lovely lunch, but your reading material has me intrigued - what natural wonder do you most want to see?

Don't know yet, I haven't finished the book :) But Australia has a lot of entries. Seems like there are a lot of things in Australia worth seeing, if only they weren't so far apart!
I would really like to see the Morning Glory in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

well, if you have time to visit next time you're over this side of the pond, I can show you Morgan's Look Out. A huge rock formation that served as a hiding spot and incredible vantage point for a local bushranger 120 years ago *g* Not quite Uluru or the Morning Glory, but nice to visit, just the same

How lovely that you met two fans and had lunch. How does that differ from having tea with a fan who might have won the honour in a competition?

He didn't have to put himself forward as a prize? (I'd love to know what the competition was that had lunch with me as a prize :) ).

Linda, you're right of course. But I reacted negatively to the dinner prize idea because I didn't want to be embarrassed when the competition closed and the entries consisted of a shop assistant and a donkey.
Morgan's Look Out sounds excellent. A bit like Kevin's Watch from the Covenant books, Sharyn? Though perhaps not quite as tall ...
Gillian, there are so many possible answers to your question I can't select one.
