Russell Kirkpatrick's Journal

Viewing By Entry / Main

I survived. Not only that, I wrote over 5000 words. Someof them might even have been good.

I was in the window of Pennys Bookstore from 12 noon to 9pm, with a break for tea, writing my novel to the entertainment of passers-by.

I suppose you'll be wanting pictures? Righto then.

Dummy [main]

Yours truly typing away.

 Linda [main]

Gary the rep, Linda the donkey and Jenny the bookseller, all sitting outside the window, wathcing.

The funniest thing was watching the reaction of (mostly adults) who thought I was a static display. 'Oh! It moved!' The kids loved it. Lots of inquiries, a few sales, and hopefully some long term benefit. And I heard someone ask was I for sale, and how much I was. Sadly, I wasn't sold.

Great fun. Thanks, Linda and Jenny. Gary the Rep might even get me to do it all again in Wellington later this year.

Arrgh,

I can't see the images. This happened last time as well. They eventually came good but this time I'm dying to see them.

Hope you had fun and I look forward to seeing the results of your writing.

Phill.

Hmmm, the images display fine for me. Would anyone esle let me know if there is a problem?

Hi Russ thanks for the photo... lol

Glad you managed to get some work done and didn't come down with a major case of 'writers block' or in this case stage fright!

Oh and images display without a problem for me.

(aka leandra)

The images are fine and the whole exercise is most impressive. Five thousand words isn't anything to be sneezed at, either.

This is the second time you've skirted questions of price recently. Makes me wonder what value you put on yourself.

BTW, what do the labels on the window say?

I can't see the photos either *sighs* So how much would they have sold you for?

Linda will have to answer that one, Sharyn and Gillian.

Gillian, there aren't any labels on the window itself. There's a notice on the wall behind me telling people when I was to be on display. My pots are labeled 'adverb', 'spice', 'plot cooker' and 'idea pills'.

The images are working for me now, which is the same as last time. It appears that something is slowing them down on their way to Canberra (and it seems Wagga).

Looks like you had fun.

Phill.

I just adore the fact that you wore thongs (on your feet for people other than Aussies who may confuse that term with another...), we ANZACs have more in common than otherwise! So glad you had fun and worked hard.

They aren't working in Wodonga either...we must all be on the same server or something (although I think mine is through the DoJ netweork, via Melbourne)

Hi Russell,

when I talked with you briefly the other night I thought you answered my questions very thoughtfully on what type of fantasy your books are on. Based on what you said I look forward to reading your saga.

As a side are you interested in speaking at any my school at all?

Cheers,
Kelly

Kelly, my mind's a complete blank. Remind me of what school it was?

I enjoy speaking to students; I recently spoke to a class from Sacred Heart college here in Hamilton.

I was the guy who had the 6 month old baby girl. I teach at Hukanui.

For those who cannot see the photos, try clicking on the link to the home page and then selecting "journal" from the main menu - that works for me anyway. The problem appears to be when you open this specific blog item from say an lj or rss feed.

Looking forward to staring at Russell in Welly.

Geeezzzzz Russell was that the best picture of 'The Girls' you could find? You took enough of us...taking a photo of you taking a photo of us taking a photo.....

There was no price on Russell in the window and no-one asked if he was for sale.....most children wanted to know how he got in there.

I distinctly heard someone ask if I was for sale - did I dream it?

And sorry for the picture. I tried to get a better shot, but that was the only one I could get before the lens cracked.

Well done Russell, he made the front page of our local paper.
