Mood: Happy
Now reading: Sorceror's Moon - Julian May
I'm very happy with progress today. Wednesday is my main writing day, and today I managed 11,000 words. I normally get about 2500 words written in a good day's writing, and those are few and far between.
Now, words alone aren't a great measure of how well a book is going. But I was excited as I wrote these words. For those of you who have read my first trilogy as well as Path of Revenge, I have begun to fold back the second trilogy on to the first. Things get extremely interesting. I'm enjoying it, anyway, and that's at least part of the point of doing this.
There's still a couple of hours of today left. I may be able to sneak a few more words in. Off I go; look at me sneaking.
Eleven thousand! I take my hat off to you, sir!
Well, I would if I wore a hat. I take my metaphorical hat off to you sir!
So far today I've managed, um, one hundred and twenty-seven. Back to work...

Linda, you could at least have asked if that amazing wordcount included mention of a donkey! Or have you lost interest in donkeys?
Posted By
Gillian / Posted At 5/9/07 9:07 PM
Yes! Not only did it mention the donkey, one of the heroes decided he'd rather sleep in the stable with the donkey than with his snory father. Linda the donkey is right at the heart of the action!

So she is being ungrateful, since she got to sleep with the hero. Linda, you need to crawl at Russell's feet until he accepts your apology (or something).

I'm going in to Linda's shop tonight, where she can publicly beg my forgiveness. I will be humble and accept her apology - after all, I could always change the donkey's name to Gillian.

If you change the name of the donkey to Gillian, then there might magically appear in another novel a toad called Russell. Or maybe a dormouse. Or maybe the ghost of a New Zealander who died in a truly dreadful fashion.

Gillian, I like your style!!

It must be so much fun being an author, you get to revenge yourself on your friends through your work...
Posted By Jo / Posted At 5/11/07 8:37 PM
What's more is we can use the process to heap public abuse on friends. I might be tempted one day to seek votes on whether Rusell should be a toad, a dormous or die dreadfully. It would be a good way to celebrate him finishing the trilogy, perhaps?
What if people vote for him being a toadlike dormouse who dies dreadfully, though?

I don't see Russell as a toad or a dormous. What other creatures did they have long ago......but are things called Russell in the world of fantasy, perhaps we could invent a new name, Russe the ferret, Rusle the bat, Nah, more like Russell the cuddly Koala.....I know, that wont work, but has there ever been a koala in a fantasy novel?
Posted By Linda / Posted At 5/12/07 3:52 PM
Australian writers sneak koalas in all sorts fo places when no-one's watching. The trouble is, can we call Russell a koala when he's really a kiwi?

I must inform you, Gillian, that my mojo remains unaffected by your continuous aspersion-casting. When one is a gnome, what need does he have to suffer odious comparisons to animals?
I'm seriously thinking of having a food scholar in my next novel.
Posted By russell / Posted At 5/13/07 4:22 PM
Another 4000 words today. Go me.
Posted By russell / Posted At 5/13/07 7:13 PM
Russell, who was casting aspersions? I was merely stating the obvious.
Will the food scholar get to be a heroine, or die an ignominous death? If he/she gets to die an ignominous death can it be from a million papercuts?

PS When you reach 40,000 words this week do we get a new blog post - or do we get a new blogpost when you're sick of the comments in this one? (don't think I didn't notice the pattern - nothing to do with 10 comments and everything to do with what we're saying and how amusing you find it)

Perhaps we'll get a new blog post when this one reaches 40,000 words ...
The food scholar dies ignominiously after misidentifying ackee fruit as medlars.
Posted By russell / Posted At 5/14/07 11:02 AM
Why didn't the food scholar just say "Ackee! Fruit!" and run away in search of something healthier, like potato chips?
