Sorry for the lack of blogging, but I got sucked in to watching three entire seasons of the TV show 'Lost'. I'm a sucker for plot twists, interconnections and arcane mysteries. 'Lost' has been enormous fun, and I'm looking forward to season four.
'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' awaits my pleasure. Alex, my younger lad, read it yesterday; Iain is reading it today. I'll get hold of it in an hour or so. Pity I have so many other things to do! More mysteries - yay.
Hope you're enjoying the English sun, Linda. Actually, best wishes to all in the UK suffering the effects of the terrible weather.
You realise that you saying nice things makes it really hard for us to be snarky? It also frightens me.

I love Lost too. I watched the first two seasons on DVD in a short timespan and am now eagerly awaiting the third.
Yes weather in UK has been awful over the weekend. I was in Harrogate at the Crime Writers Festival and a lot of the people there were worried about getting home. Frederick Forsyth ended up not being able to get to Harrogate. That is a town you must visit Russell. Obviously people who live there have money, but it is the most beautiful place.
Long haul back to Kiwiland starts tomorrow...yuk yuk yuk

Gillian, you've never had trouble being snarky before.
I've only ever met male fans of 'Lost'. I'm sure women like it, and I seldom buy gender-based arguments, but I wonder why it appeals primarily to men?
Thanks for the warning, Linda. Kiwiland will prepare itself for your return.

Interesting - I've never really watched 'Lost' and had assumed it was primarily aimed at women because I don't know any guys who follow it and one of my friends used to sing its praises as the thing that would distract his wife and daughter for an hour, leaving him free to spend come quality time with his PC :)
Our whole familty has read the last Harry now, leading to much debate of its pros and cons over the dinner table. Which in itself is probably a good thing.

Ooh! Ooh! I'm female and like Lost! ;-)
Except I found parts of the third season disappointing. Particularly the fact that it wasn't the last season as I had thought it would be. That last is probably as much due to other TV shows I liked and which had remained consistently good being axed.
I do suspect, however, that season three would be more enjoyable if I watched it all in quick succession.

I like Lost too - glued to the screen every thursday night (well, most of them) - hubby will catch up when he buys the DVD set of season 3 and I can catch up on the few episodes I missed.
Apparently it's going on for another THREE or FOUR years, or so I heard..... how they can spin it out that long is beyond me but hey, I'll keep watching.

Man, that annoys me. I like 'Lost' but can only watch it on DVD. Watching it with ad breaks confuses me too much!! I saw an interview with JJ Abrams a while back where he said that it would only be three seasons and I was impressed that he was willing to maintain artistic integrity and keep the story arc whole. Obviously the money men have decided that this 'nice little earner' needs to keep going and he couldn't refuse the money. This is the same thing that happened with 'X-Files' which should have finished at least two seasons earlier than it did.

Yes, future directions of the storyline bother me. I hear tell there will be major changes to the direction. Hmmm.
Just finished HP7 this morning and thought it magnificent.
Posted By russell / Posted At 7/24/07 12:56 PM
Me too (HP finished). Although there have been many times through the series when I have been a little disappointed (or bored) with Harry, book 7 has just blown my mind. Laughed, cried, went "oooh, aaah". JK has really tied it up well. Just have to wait for my friend Kate, who is reading about 100 pages behind me, to finish. I had to sit in the park with her and our kids this afternoon and I wasn't allowed to say a thing!!! Nearly killed me!!!

I'm sure that would be painful Jo. We were lucky enough to have two copies of the book so there would be no fighting over who was reading when. And our eldest, who was last to read it, simply retreated downstairs to her bedroom and closed the door leaving the rest of us free to talk about it :)

Kate's finished now, she stayed up until 1.30 this morning... she has three small children and is now completely wasted - the things we do for books!!!

Love lost....last episode for season is on tonight (2 hours) - can't wait to see what happens. Apparently it's not meant to finish till 2010 or sumthing....i wonder if it'll still maintain my interests...
Finished Harry Potter on Monday...but it feels a little weird now...thers no more books waiting lol

Russell, make many people happy and answer Nicole's email with a 'yes.' (Me, apply undue pressure?)

No.

Well just to be different, I think Lost has "lost the plot". It started off with great promise but has gone from better to worse and is just plain silly to me now....well that was a while ago, I gave up during season 2. It would have been much better as a mini-series.
Everywhere I went on my travels after 21st, people were reading Hp7. Oh to have a book sell that well ahe Russell? Since I have not read any Hp books I read the last chapters in No.7. :) awwwww.

Are you home yet?

Worth trying :). I had all sorts of tough questions to ask you - now they'll have to wait till you mention the right things on your blog or you're on a Conflux panel :).

We should hack into Russell's system and delete most of the comments and have 'no' followed by 'yes' and let the rest of Russell's readers become confused.

This silliness has arisen because Nicole Murphy is trying to contact me. I'll reply to her in a day or so, but Gillian is getting anxious. Silly Gillian :)
Posted By russell / Posted At 7/28/07 6:05 PM
Is that THE Nicole Murphy as in wife of Eddie??????
Posted By Linda / Posted At 7/29/07 3:06 AM
Could be ...
Posted By russell / Posted At 7/29/07 4:01 AM
No.
Not unless Eddie's name is Tim :).
I am less silly than I was this time yesterday because I went to a bad taste movie night. It drained me of silliness. If Russell posts something wise in hurry he might get a sensible comment.
