Russell Kirkpatrick's Journal

Viewing By Entry / Main

Doesn't happen very often that a Kiwi beats the Aussies. So when I triumphed in Myrtleford's Thursday Golf Stableford, I thought it ought to be headline news. Sadly, the major news networks weren't covering my magnificent even-par round, so they didn't get to see my five birdies and my appalling double-bogey and three bogeys. I kept my winning speech short and suitably magnanimous. The nice lads of Myrtleford gave me a voucher to be spent in the town, cheered me to my car and as I was leaving hurriedly put up a sign saying 'No Kiwis'. I'll be back there on Saturday but I'm not sure of my reception. Still waiting for those TV interviews ...

I just had to go look up what a golfing Stableford actually was, so you have not only triumphed at your sport, you've also added to my fund of U.I. Good work, young Russky.

What a legend, surely you will be greeted at the airport by your legions of adoring fans (well, I'm sure Dorinda will show up...won't she??).

er, I thought you were writing a book?

You didn't seriously think I'd sit in a room for 16 hours a day, forcing words out, did you Glenda? No! Russell was commanded by his doctor to exercise regularly, and by gum he will, no matter how inconvenient he finds it! No fear, I'm still thronting through the chapters and making excellent progress. (You'd have loved it here, Glenda. So conducive to writing, and so much to do in between bounds of word-wrestling.)

Yes, of course I thought you would spend every waking hour writing! After all, otherwise I are going to feel jealous. Not, I hasten to say of the golf...but of the idea your enjoying yourself. Shame on you.

Yes Glenda, I was going to comment too on how clever Russell was writing on the golf course.....but then he is a clever lad. Hurry back I miss the abuse!!!!

And that should have read "you're" enjoying yourself. Sigh - see, I should be at a writing retreat too. I need it.

Well, Glenda, we wish you were here. We're making plans for the next one ...
